Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched on 23 October 2026. If you have been too busy to follow the build-up, this is a short, plain-English rundown of what the game is, where you can play it and what early players are saying.

Quick facts

The story

The campaign centres on a sudden war between North and South Korea. A powerful weapon is being delivered to a mysterious figure known as the Archer, played by Mads Mikkelsen, while Captain Price and Park each face their own conflicts. An early impressions piece reports three storylines that come together near the end, with 16 missions that take roughly seven to ten hours depending on difficulty.

What people are saying

Early reactions are positive. Some outlets are framing the game as a return to the series' strongest era, and one early impressions piece calls the campaign one of the best in the franchise. It is still early, though, and full reviews and the multiplayer experience will take a little longer to judge, so treat early praise as early.

Should you buy it?

My take

As someone who builds games, what interests me most is how many different experiences one release has to carry: a story campaign, a competitive mode and an extraction mode all need to feel good at once. Time will tell how well it manages that.
