๐ The Fence
Free 3D arcade game. Press play to start, right here in your browser.
About the game
The Fence is a short first-person horror game built with the Babylon.js 3D engine. You are a sheep in a moonlit pen, and tall, silent figures gather in the dark beyond the fence. They only creep closer when you are not looking at them, so you must keep turning to watch them. If one reaches the fence and you look away for too long, it breaks in. Bleat to scare nearby figures back, and survive until the sun rises. Each night is longer and has more figures. The game is tense and atmospheric but family-friendly, with no blood or gore. The 3D engine is downloaded only when you press Play, so the rest of the site stays light.
How to play
- Look around with the mouse (click the game to capture it) or by dragging on the right side of a touch screen
- Move with W A S D or the arrow keys, or with the left-side stick on a touch screen
- Press Space or E, or tap the sheep button, to bleat. It scares figures back and stuns them, then needs time to recharge
- Keep figures in front of you: they freeze while you are looking at them
Scoring
You earn points for every second you survive, for every figure you scare away with a bleat, and a big bonus when dawn breaks. Your score carries from night to night and your best score and furthest night are saved on your device.
Tips and tricks
- Never let a figure stay out of sight for long. Turn in a slow circle so each one is watched in turn.
- A figure waiting at the fence is about to break in, so look at it as soon as you can.
- Save the bleat for when two or three figures are close, because it has a long recharge.
- Headphones help: the heartbeat gets faster as a figure gets closer.
Frequently asked questions
- Is The Fence too scary for children?
- It is spooky and tense but not graphic. There is no blood, gore or violence, and being caught simply ends the night so you can try again.
- Why does the game take a moment to start?
- The Fence uses the Babylon.js 3D engine, which is downloaded the first time you press Play (a few megabytes). After that your browser keeps it, and the other games on the site never load it.
- Why do the figures stop moving?
- They only move when you cannot see them. While one is in front of you it stays frozen.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. Use the left side of the screen to move and the right side to look, and tap the sheep button to bleat. If it feels slow the game lowers its graphics automatically on phones.
